About Name Change Plan

Name Change Plan is an independent document-preparation site for the one bureaucratic project almost every married or divorced American does exactly once: changing their name across a dozen agencies that don't talk to each other.

What we do

Explain the process for every U.S. state, the UK, Australia and Canada; build a personal plan from five questions; and fill the government forms and notification letters in your browser so nothing you type touches a server. All of it is free — the email address at the packet step is the only thing we ask for, and we use it to tell you when a form or fee changes.

How the site makes money

Affiliate links, disclosed where they appear: NewlyNamed for people who want a mailed kit, LegalZoom for court petitions. We don't run ads, don't sell the email list, and don't see your form data because it never leaves your browser.

What we are not

Not a law firm — nothing here is legal advice, and court petitions get routed to your court's self-help center or a licensed attorney. Not a government agency — every form we fill is free from the agency, and we link the source on every page. Not a data business — see the privacy policy.

How we keep it accurate

Federal steps are checked against ssa.gov and travel.state.gov. State fees and deadlines are compiled from official pages and marked ≈ until re-verified each quarter; the methodology page explains the process. If you find an error, email [email protected] and we'll fix it and credit you if you like.
